-
How was your audition? The best audition experience I had. I received feedback from my initial auditions which is extremely rare. At the recall, you have a lot of time to show your potential, including an extensive animal workshop, singing and performing your speeches.
-
What were the facilities like at school?Incredibly modern. It’s purpose built so it’s great. The best facilities of all the schools I looked around.
-
What 3 items would be your essentials for surviving drama school?Actions: The Actor’s Thesaurus. Teachers frown upon it but it’s so useful when you’re learning actions.
Water bottle: a big one that fits in your bag. You drink SO much water.
Moleskine notebook: all my 2nd and 3rd year notes went into it and I know I’ll keep it forever. You want one that’s hard wearing! -
What were the lessons you learnt most from, and which could you have lived without?Scene classes, where we would perform duologues then get/give feedback, were my most important class.
Laban – personally worked a lot for me.
Acting through song – increased my singing confidence hugely.
Not so useful: I personally didn’t get much from animal work or contemporary dance. It just didn’t help me personally. -
What lessons did this school offer on surviving in the big bad world? We had a lot of talks in 3rd year from agents, casting directors and other industry professionals.
-
Do you still have a network of friends from the course or school?Of course!
-
What was the most inspiring lesson/tip you learnt at drama school?A lesson our head of acting taught us about balancing the space in triangles. I don’t know about inspiring, but it was definitely the most important thing I learnt.
-
What was the most embarassing moment at drama school? My entire first year?!
-
How was your showcase? It was good. Well attended, full audience, and I did a speech I really liked. Most of the actors in our year got represented.
-
Which is the local pub where everyone liked to hang out?Gosta Green.
-
If you had to describe your whole drama school experience in a tweet what would it be?Three years of madness in an odd city which gave me a practical foundation to start my acting career with. Highly recommended!
-
What would your current self tell your younger self before you started your drama school?Just relax and enjoy it – and that nobody cares if you didn’t get a lead part while at drama school once you leave!
